Engines & Transmissions
The 2016 Dart offers multiple transmission and engine options. However, the base SE has a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine to provide up to 148 lb-ft of torque at 4,800 revolutions per minute (rpm) and 160 horsepower at 6,400 rpm. The SE can have either a manual (offering up to 36 miles per gallon--which is often abbreviated "mpg"--highway and 25 mpg city) or an automatic (up to 24 mpg city and 34 mpg highway) transmission. For fuel economy you may get up to 35 mpg on the highway with the Limited and SXT with the manual, 35 mpg highway with the Limited and SXT with the automatic, 33 mpg highway with a GT and a manual transmission, and 31 mpg highway for the GT model and an automatic transmission. And then there is the Aero model, which has an inline-4 1.4-liter turbocharged engine with up to 184 ft-lb of torque at 2,500-4,000 rpm and 160 horsepower at 5,500 rpm. With the 1.4-liter's manual transmission you may get up to 41 mpg highway, and you may get up to 40 mpg highway with a dual dry-clutch transmission (DDCT) system-equipped automatic transmission.
