2018 Dodge Challenger at Newark Chrysler Jeep Dodge

The Challenger comes with a new addition to its lineup in 2018. This new model has been labeled as the first-ever factory-produced car with a liquid-to-air intercooler chilling system. The Challenger is also the first ever two-door American muscle car to come in all-wheel drive. If you are looking for the coolest new model, check out the SRT Demon. This muscle car blows the old, top of the lineup, Hellcat out of the water with its 840 horsepower engine. This doesn't mean bad news for the Hellcat though. In 2018 the Hellcat receives a new look with illuminated air-catcher headlamps, new grille and fender badges, and the all-new demonic red seating upholstery.

What types of safety features are available?

The new 2018 lineup consists of the SXT, GT, R/T, R/T 392, SRT 392, SRT Hellcat, and the SRT Demon. The base SXT trim comes with a six-speaker sound system, automatic headlights, a 7-inch Bluetooth touchscreen, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Next is the GT which adds to the SXT offerings with heated front seats, interior ambient lighting, and so much more. The R/T adds more road functional technology like foglights, a limited-slip differential, and upgraded brakes. The R/T 392 then adds a rear spoiler, rear parking sensors, cloth sport seats, and a sport-tuned suspension. The SRT 392 then includes beefier front Brembo brakes, xenon headlights, leather upholstery, and 18-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and navigation. Finally, we come to the old head of the lineup, the SRT Hellcat. This trim comes with quad exhaust tips, automatic wipers, and automatic high beams, as well as a yearning for speed. The brand new SRT Demon adds a majority of new cooling systems, a transbrake, street-legal drag slicks, and launch control. The Demon also has a strange quirk to help keep it light. It's missing all but the driver seat. No worries the rear and the front passenger seat can be added back in if wanted though.

Which engines are available?

The Challenger engines are all matched to the various models. The 3.6-liter V6 comes standard on the SXT and GT models with an eight-speed automatic transmission. While the R/T and T/A models come standard with a 5.7-liter V8. On the six-speed manual transmission, this engine produces 375 horsepower, while when it is paired with the eight-speed automatic transmission it produces 372 horsepower. Every other model minus the Demon and Hellcat have a standard 6.4-liter V8. The Demon and Hellcat both receive a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 but have different production rates. The Hellcat produces 707 horsepower, while the Demon reaches an all-time V8 engine high at 840 horsepower. Every one of these engines has the option of a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic transmission pairing.

What rating has the Department of Transportation given the Challenger?

The Challenger comes with over 70 safety and security features in 2018. Many of the standard features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross path detection, blind-spot warning, parkview rear backup camera, and adaptive cruise control. Many other features are available in the upper trim levels and through add-on packages. In 2018 the Challenger had also received a full five-star rating for its crash test with the Department of Transportation.
