2018 Jeep Compass vs 2018 Toyota RAV4 near Wilmington, DE

In the extensive market of shopping for a compact SUV, its the details that truly make the vehicle for both the driver and those important passengers they may take along on the ride.  You want comfort and performance despite the smaller size, functionality to suit all your daily tasks, and a budget-friendly price that ties the package altogether.  Here, we present to you the 2018 Jeep Compass and the 2018 Toyota RAV4, two of the most popular vehicles of the segment, to better inform your choice and make the decision of your next vehicle a confident one.

2018 Jeep Compass Power & Handling

When you think Jeep, you think capability and versatility.  The 2018 Compass' base powertrain is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that produces 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque.  Paired with this engine in the base Sport trim is a six-speed manual transmission, which has optional upgrade to the six-speed automatic that comes standard within the next trim up, the Latitude.  A great plus is the available 4WD for those who need the extra power either do to wanting to experience some Jeep off-road adventure or due to being in an area of seasonal inclimate weather.  The option of a nine-speed automatic transmission becomes available with vehicles 4WD equipped in order to provide better low speed torque ranges, able to tow up to 2,000 pounds.

2018 Toyota RAV4 Power & Handling

The RAV4 comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, not quite matching the Compass' performance with 176 horsepower.  The standard transmission is a six-speed shiftable automatic, producing 172 pound-feet of torque.  The Toyota RAV4's 6-inch ground clearance isn't as apt at tackling off-roading as the Jeep.  This vehicle also has 4WD available in the base LE model, but this is purely for road-driving power when necessary, such as when hauling.  The RAV4 can manage to tow 1,500 pounds.

2018 Jeep Compass Features & Design

The Jeep Compass was recently redesigned in 2017, offering a fresh new take on Jeep's famous silhouette and included features.  Designed like a little Grand Cherokee, the Compass is ready to keep up with its big brother with its 8.2-inch ground clearance.  It's designed smaller than the RAV4, three inches lower in height and ten inches shorter in length, but the Compass makes efficient use of its space to maximize passenger comfort.  The rear seat passengers have an extra inch of legroom.  Cargo volume begins at 27 cubic-feet and can expand to nearly 70 cubic-feet with the rear seat folded flat.

2018 Toyota RAV4 Features & Design

Meanwhile, the Toyota RAV4 is going into this generation's sixth year since its last remodeling.  This is a journeying SUV, with a cruising range of 416 miles, 90 miles more than the Compass.  This is thanks to the larger gas tank, as the two vehicles' fuel efficiencies are on par with each other, holding sixteen gallons whereas the Compass holds thirteen.  Cargo volume starts at 38 cu.ft and expands to 73 cu.ft.  A sunroof on the base LE is a nice standard feature.
