2019 Jeep Cherokee vs 2019 Honda CR-V near Wilmington, DE

Is there an SUV-shaped hole in your life that needs to be filled? Well, we have two suggestions that just might be the right fit for you. They are the 2019 Jeep Cherokee and the 2019 Honda CR-V. Each has a good set of features and capabilities just waiting to be taken advantage of, but if two choices still seem like one too many, follow along as we compare and contrast what each vehicle has to offer so that we might make the choice a bit easier.

2019 Jeep Cherokee Power & Handling

Offer the choice between three excellent powertrains, the 2019 Jeep Cherokee allows you to control over what's under the hood for the majority of its available trims. The standard engine consists of a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder that will have your Cherokee running on 180 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. The first optional upgrade comes in the form of a 3.2-liter V6 with 271 horsepower and 239 pound-feet of torque. The second optional engine is a 2-liter turbo engine that reaches 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. A 9-speed automatic transmission is the standard equipment for all three of the available engines. The Limited, Latitude, and Overland trims are also offered with the choice of either front- or all-wheel drive while all-wheel drive comes standard on the Trailhawk trim.

2019 Honda CR-V Power & Handling

There are two powertrains available for the 2019 Honda CR-V, which happens to be one less than what the Cherokee has available. While both are fine options, they are also locked to which trim level you choose instead of simply being available. Beginning at the LX trim will see the CR-V equipped with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that's matched with a continuously variable automatic transmission and front-wheel drive that work together to run on 184 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. At the EX trim and above, the CR-V will come with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that manages 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque, which just about matches the capabilities of the Cherokee's most basic engine.

2019 Jeep Cherokee Features & Design

There are five astoundingly well-equipped trim levels to choose between with the 2019 Jeep Cherokee, virtually ensuring that there will always be a model that has exactly the features you're hoping for. The Latitude, the Cherokee's basic trim, will come with standard features such as a rearview camera, 17-inch wheels, USB port, smartphone integration, Bluetooth, automatic xenon headlights, seven-inch touchscreen, six-speaker audio system, and folding passenger seating. Stepping up to the Latitude Plus trim will add satellite radio, keyless ignition, passive keyless entry, two additional USB ports, push-button start, and leather upholstery inserts. The Limited trim level gives the Cherokee leather upholstery, 18-inch wheels, an improved driver information display,  8.4-inch touchscreen, rear parking sensors, rear-cross traffic alert, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, and blind-spot monitoring. The Overland, the Cherokee's top trim, comes outfitted with upgraded leather upholstery, unique body-color exterior options, ventilated front row seats, HD radio, a leather-wrapped instrument panel, cornering lighting, sliding rear seating, an onboard navigation system, sliding rear seats, sound deadening glass, driver-seat memory, and a 9-speaker audio system. The last available trim is the off-road specialized Trailhawk trim, which comes equipped with specialized features such as a locking rear differential, unique appearance options for both the exterior and interior, suspension tuning, tow hooks, hill descent and ascent control, 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, increased ground clearance, and skid plates.

2019 Honda CR-V Features & Design

The 2019 Honda CR-V only offers four trims for you to choose between, once more one less than the amount offered by the Cherokee. The LX, the CR-V's basic trim level, comes with such features as cruise control, a five-inch color display, automatic climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, adjustable driver seating, a four-speaker audio system, rearview camera, LED running lights, and a pair of USB ports. The EX trim level ups things a bit with the inclusion of a retractable cargo cover, heated front row seating, keyless entry, remote start, rear privacy glass, dual-zone automatic climate control, an upgraded driver information display, sunroof, and foglights. Stepping up to the EX-L trim level will bring with it power-adjustable passenger seating, HD radio, leather upholstery, power liftgate with programmable height options, driver-seat memory, and an eight-speaker audio system. Last on the list is the Touring trim, the top of the line trim when it comes to the CR-V, which comes with automatic wipers, a subwoofer added to the sound system, hands-free power liftgate, LED headlights, roof rails, an onboard navigation system, ambient interior lights, and dual chrome exhaust tips.

While there's something to be said for both the 2019 Jeep Cherokee and the 2019 Honda CR-V, to us it looks like the 2019 Jeep Cherokee comes out ahead between the two vehicles. In the realm of power, the Cherokee not only offers an additional option to the CR-V, but the most basic of the Cherokee's engines is practically equal to the most powerful available engine for the CR-V. As for features and trim, not only does the Cherokee once again offer an additional option, but the features that come with each trim feel more substantial than those gained at each trim level of the CR-V. So, when it comes to not just power but customization, we have to give it to the 2019 Jeep Cherokee as our SUV of choice.
