2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs 2020 Ford Edge

Have you been thinking about swapping out your current ride for a newer SUV model? If so, it's likely that you have narrowed down the crowded segment to two of the most popular models, the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2020 Ford Edge. We are here to help you find out which of these two SUVs is loaded with the features that you want and need and is capable enough to take on all the adventures you can dream about! Keep reading as we compare what these two SUVs have to offer from engine options to trim levels and more.

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Power & Handling

Jeep doesn't scrimp when powering the Grand Cherokee in the 2020 model year. The base engine, a Pentastar 3.6-liter V6, delivers 260 pound-feet of torque and 295 horsepower. This engine is configured with standard RWD but 4WD is available. Next up is the optional 5.7-liter V8, the first of three V8 engines, that pumps out 390 pound-feet of torque and 360 horsepower. The next V8, found under the hood of the SRT, is a 6.4-liter that creates 470 pound-feet of torque and 475 horsepower. The third V8 engine is housed in the Trackhawk trim. This supercharged 6.2-liter V8 kicks out 645 pound-feet of torque and 707 horsepower. All V8 engines are configured with standard 4WD while all engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. When it comes to towing, the Grand Cherokee can handle up to 7,400 pounds!

2020 Ford Edge Power & Handling

There are just two powertrain options for the Edge. The base engine, which powers almost the entire lineup, is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 that generates 275 pound-feet of torque and 250 horsepower. This engine is configured with standard FWD while AWD is offered. The second and only other engine option powers the ST trim level. This 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6 produces 380 pound-feet of torque and 335 horsepower and is configured with AWD as standard. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Features & Design

In the 2020 model year, the Grand Cherokee is offered in a total of seven trim levels. The base Laredo trim comes equipped with dual-zone climate control, smartphone integration, alloy wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen, heated side mirrors, and more. The upper trim levels, like the Limited, Overland, and Summit, add more creature comforts like leather upholstery, a power liftgate, premium sound systems, power sunroof, heated front seats, and driver assistance features. The Trailhawk trim is outfitted with off-roading geared features while the SRT and Trackhawk are outfitted for performance driving.

2020 Ford Edge Features & Design

There are only four Ford Edge trim levels to choose from in the 2020 model year. The base SE is outfitted with rain-sensing wipers, a 4.2-inch display screen, alloy wheels, and Ford Co-Pilot. The upper trim levels add parking sensors, smartphone integration, power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, wireless charging, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Sync 3 infotainment.

Conclusion:

After reviewing what these SUVs have to offer, we can safely say you need to climb behind the wheel of a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee and hit the road! The Ford Edge put up a good fight but it just can't compete with the Grand Cherokee's powerful engine lineup or its outstanding list of features. Plus, the Edge doesn't offer a off-roading trim and its "performance trim" barely kicks out enough power to compete with the Grand Cherokee's mid-level engine.
