2021 Jeep Cherokee vs Chevrolet Equinox

Buying a new SUV can be an exciting time, but things can also be confusing as there are so many makes and models out there with several engine options and features to choose. Here at Newark Chrysler Jeep Dodge, we hope to cut down a little on the confusion by taking two of the best models on the market in the 2021 Jeep Cherokee and the Chevrolet Equinox and compared their engine options and features, so you get a better idea of which one you should be driving home. Continue reading down below to see which one comes out on top!

2021 Jeep Cherokee Power & Handling

There are three impressive engine options available for the 2021 Jeep Cherokee, and each one delivers the type of power you expect from Jeep. The first engine, which is standard on the first few trims, is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that kicks out 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. Going with the Latitude Lux trim and above brings a choice of two options, with the first being a 3.2-liter V6 that delivers 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque and the second a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that has a terrific 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Every engine pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive. You have the option of four-wheel-drive on all trims if you choose. The Trailhawk comes standard with an advanced four-wheel-drive system.

2021 Chevrolet Equinox Power & Handling

Unlike the Cherokee, the Chevrolet Equinox only comes with one engine option, so your power is going to be limited. The standard engine for all trims is a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder that kicks out a decent 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. This engine pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive, but you do have the option of four-wheel-drive on every trim except the L. While these power numbers are perfectly fine, they do pale compared to what the Cherokee offers people. Also, the Cherokee offers four-wheel-drive on every trim level.

2021 Jeep Cherokee Features & Design

There are five impressive trim levels available for the Cherokee, and each one comes with a ton of great features. Things start nicely with the base Latitude trim, which brings you power front windows, exterior mirrors with a heating element, supplemental turn signals, courtesy lamps, a rearview camera, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Next up is the Latitude Plus, which adds to the Latitude with heated front seats, premium-wrapped heated steering wheel, remote start, keyless entry, and push-button start. More luxury features are available with the Latitude Lux trim, which brings in Nappa leather seats, power front seats with a power lumbar adjuster, and a windshield wiper de-icer. Then there is the massive amount of off-roading features available on the Trailhawk trim as it comes with an advanced all-wheel-drive system, wider wheels, and all-terrain tires. There is also an increased ground clearance. Things round out nicely with the Limited trim, which has leather upholstery, an upgraded driver display in the gauge cluster, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen.

2021 Chevrolet Equinox Features & Design

There are only four trims for the Chevrolet Equinox, but there are some interesting features here. The first is the base L trim which comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, heated mirrors, keyless entry and ignition, a height-adjustable driver's seat, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Next is the LS, which adds to the L with rear floor mats, a compact spare tire, and rear privacy glass. The most luxury features are found on the LT as it comes with upgraded headlights, added chrome, body-colored exterior trim, satellite radio, and an upgraded driver information screen. A few optional packages are available for the LT, including the Confidence and Convenience package, which brings you a remote engine start, dual-zone automatic temperature control, heated front seats, and a power liftgate. The Equinox rounds things out the top-of-the-line Premium, which has 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, and a wireless charging pad.

Conclusion:

There are strengths with both of these SUVs, but we will give the victory to the 2021 Jeep Cherokee! The Cherokee comes with more impressive engine options, and there are more features available for the Cherokee than the Equinox. Want to get behind the wheel of this amazing SUV?
